Sunday Night Conference Call: Gamecocks coach Beamer reviews Saturday night's win over A&M

Oct. 23, 2022

Coach Beamer meet with the media on Sunday night conference call for the first time as the coach of a nationally ranked team. The Gamecocks are 25th in the AP and Coaches Poll this week following their win over Texas A&M Saturday night. It’s the first time the Gamecocks have been ranked since September 4th, 2018. And their four-game winning streak is the third-longest one in the SEC.

On top of that good news, Beamer added that there were no new injuries coming out of the A&M game, so the team should be in good shape health-wise for this week’s home game against Missouri. The Gamecocks opened as six-point favorites, but Sunday night the consensus line had settled to 4.5 points.

The game for the Mayor’s Cup will kick off at 4:00 PM and be televised on the SEC Network.

NOTES AND QUOTES

Beamer:
Had no update on offensive line coach Greg Adkins who has been dealing with a medical issue and stepped away in late September, other than to say he's doing fine.
Beamer: Happy for his assistants when they are mentioned for other jobs and he will help them, asks them to keep him informed, has a great staff and wants to keep them together as long as he can.
Beamer: They didn't get any sacks but they hit the quarterback a lot and they affected him; they also didn't let Achane get going in a big way.
Beamer: His guys truly believe in one another, care for one another and play for one another; a lot of that was built in off-season; leadership is good due to having an older team.
Beamer: On the blindside hit on Rattler that caused a fumble, doesn't blame the tackle, ball has to come out quicker by Rattle
Beamer: Environment last night was great for recruiting, had a recruit call him around 2:00 AM Sunday morning to talk about the game. Lots of recruits at game and watching on TV.
Beamer: Shouldn't be a shock to those on the team where they are right now, key is to continue to get better each week, thinks his guys will do that, they are playing with confidence and for one another.
Beamer: Came out of the game healthy, no new injuries to report coming out of the game.
Beamer: Didn't block the 100 yard kickoff return great, Legette made two miss, his shoe came off around the 50, great individual effort.
Beamer: Players of the game, Offense Lloyd, Stogner and Douglas, Defense Burch, Pickens and Smith, Special Teams Hemingway, Legette, Kroeger and Rush.
Beamer: Proud of his players and how they played, situational football was going to be important, third down conversions, red zone success were big.
