The NCAA Tournament will return to Columbia this year. The NCAA announced its 16 Regional host sites on Sunday and South Carolina was selected to host the opening round. The Gamecocks (42-15) did not make the field last year but hosted in 2014 as well.
The top eight national seeds, which guarantees a Super Regional host site if the hosts advance, will be announced when the entire field is released on Monday at noon in a broadcast special on ESPNU.
South Carolina has hosted a Regional six of the last seven years and is one of only five teams in the nation to do so. The team won the SEC East this year, its first division title since the 2012 season.
The Gamecocks won its final five regular season games but stumbled to another 0-2 mark in the SEC Tournament suffering losses to No. 7 seed Ole Miss and No. 3 seed Texas A&M. The Gamecocks returned home on Thursday and have practiced each of the last three days.
