4 star Junior QB Drew Barker (6-3 211) of Burlington, KY will make his first USC game Saturday when the Gamecocks host Tennessee. Barker received an offer from USC this summer while on a visit. "We go on a family vacation to Folly Beach every year," said Barker. "My family stopped by the school. Coach (G.A.) Mangus showed us around campus and that's when I got my offer." Barker's other offers are from Louisville, Cincinnati, Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, Louisiana-Lafayette and Western Kentucky. He is looking forward to returning to the Palmetto State. "I never got to meet any of the other coaches because they were all on vacation," he said. "Coach Mangus came from his house to talk to us. I know coach (Steve) Spurrier is one of the best head coaches in the country and they have a great program." Through nine games, Barker has thrown for 1661 yards and 18 touchdowns. He has rushed for 1061 yards and another 13 scores. He does not have a favorite.

USC moves to the front with Junior QB Drew Barker after visit

10/28/12

Junior QB Drew Barker (6-3 211) of Hebron, KY visited USC unofficially over the weekend with his family. Barker arrived late Friday night and left Sunday afternoon. "It was a great visit," Barker said. "The game was awesome, the atmosphere was great." Barker said he spoke several times with recruiter GA Mangus and met with Steve Spurrier before the game and Sunday afternoon. "Their offense fits my skill set because they really pass it and run it with the quarterback," he said. Barker went into the locker room after the game and this morning had breakfast with Mangus and later went on a tour of the campus. "South Carolina really impressed me with this visit, the best visit I've had," said Barker who has also been to Ohio State, Louisville and Cincinnati. "It really, really intrigued me a lot. They are in good position right now. Of my offers, South Carolina is definitely my number one. They are at the top." Barker was so impressed, he said, he thought briefly about committing. "I thought about it a little but I wasn't tempted because I knew I wasn't going to do it," he said. "They have drilled into my head that they want me." Barker said his decision could come as soon as December or January. He has his playoffs coming up and will be focusing on that and said the only other visit he has planned is to Ohio State for the Michigan game.
