Groves visited USC in early April and had been strong on the Gamecocks since then. Groves missed all but four games last season due to a neck fracture. He was cleared to play in December. Groves bringing multiple skills to USC

USC's newest commitment DB Ali Groves of Stone Mountain, GA is a multil-talented player who should fit right in with what USC likes to do in the secondary according to one of his high school coaches. "He's a great overall athlete who affects the game in several different ways," Stephenson High assistant coach Corey Johnson. Groves plays quarterback, cornerback and special teams for his high school. He will be a cornerback for the Gamecocks. "He's naturally athletic, physical and can run," Johnson said. Groves missed most of last season with a neck injury but his coach said he's fine now. Groves chose USC from a list of about 20 offers and Johnson said there was one good reason he went with the Gamecocks. "His mom lives in South Carolina and he wants to be closer," he said. It also helped USC that several former Stephenson players have played for or are coming to USC. That includes another 2013 commitment LB Kight Dallas who has transfered to Stephenson from Arabia Mountain High School in Lithonia.

Groves expected at USC Thursday

USC commitment DB Ali Groves of Stone Mountain, GA is scheduled to visit the school Thursday. Groves committed to the Gamecocks in late May. His mother lives in South Carolina and that was a major reason for his commitment to the Gamecocks. Groves also visited USC in early April. Some of his other offers were Vanderbilt, Florida, Missouri, Wake Forest, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Kentucky and Syracuse. Groves played in just four games last season due to a neck injury. He was cleared in December. He was recruited as a cornerback but is also a weapon on offense and on special teams.
