Gamecock Hire New TE Coach NFL Assistant Jody Wright

Reports surfaced this morning that Jody Wright will be hired as the Gamecocks’ next Tight Ends Coach. He will fill the opening left by Erik Kimrey’s departure and is set to conclude contract negotiations this week. Wright has coached with Shane Beamer in the past. Both were members of Mississippi State’s coaching crew under Sylvester Croom. Since then, Wright has also been a part of staff at UAB, Jacksonville State, and Alabama.
Most recently, he was an assistant in the NFL for both the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants.
Wright’s hire becomes the second new addition to the current staff. After defensive assistant Mike Peterson left to take a position at Florida, the Gamecocks hired Sterling Lucas away from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Wright’s hiring brings more NFL experience to Columbia, and he’ll look to make an impact in a very talented tight ends room.
