COLUMBIA - The University of South Carolina baseball team went 2-1 against UNC Greensboro, opening the season with a series win for the 24th consecutive year.

NOTES:
Carolina came back from down 7-1 in the bottom of the ninth to win, 8-7, in 10 innings in Sunday's rubber match. Andrew Eyster's grand slam sent the game into extra innings and Michael Braswell's RBI fielder's choice walked off the Spartans.

Michael Braswell was the Opening Day shortstop for the Gamecocks, had four hits, including his first collegiate home run on Friday, picked up the win on the mound on Sunday and had the game-winning RBI.


Braylen Wimmer had a great start to 2022, going 8-for-13 with three runs scored and two RBI in the UNC Greensboro series.

Andrew Eyster had a home run in the 9-7 win on Opening Day, then had the game-tying grand slam on Sunday. Eyster now has 27 career home runs at Carolina. He went 7-for-15 with a double, two home runs and eight RBI in the three games.

Will Sanders picked up right where he left off in 2021 on Opening Day, allowing just three hits and one run with three strikeouts and no walks in five innings of work to earn the win. Sanders now has seven wins in his Carolina career.

Wesley Sweatt earned the save on Friday, getting the final out of the game, then pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief in Sunday's win, striking out a batter and allowing two hits.
