Gamecocks put the double-team on Nyck Harbor Thursday

SPORTSTALK / October 14, 2022

1665751284964.pngTalented tight end (and defensive end) Nyck Harbor of Washington, DC probably has seen some double-teams on the field during his career. Thursday it was off the field where the double-team was formed. USC assistant coaches Torrian Gray and Sterling Lucas made a recruiting stop at Archbishop Carroll High School to visit with Harbor and his head coach Robert Harris.

“Coach Lucas and Coach Gray are doing a real good job,” Harris said Thursday night. “It’s that time of year. Coaches are out during their bye week. It was a good conversation. It hasn’t changed. They want him down at South Carolina. Coach Lucas was with me for a couple of hours, and they probably had a good half-an-hour with him. They were here at the school, no home visit.”

Harris said there wasn’t much talk between the Gamecock coaches and Harbor about how he would be used by them and what they could do for him if he comes to USC because all of that was covered on his official visit the weekend of September 16th. And he said the pitch they made to Harbor was basically the same as it has been throughout their pursuit.

“Hey, we’d love to have you. You would fit in well,” Harris said. “And they are just kind of waiting because they know he’s probably going to make his decision at the end of the (football) year.”

Harris said the Gamecocks have been the only program to come by the school to visit Harbor in recent days. Harbor also made an official visit to Michigan in September and he plans to take one to Maryland in December after his season is over. The season could last to December 3rd, date of the state championship game.

Harbor has narrowed his focus to USC, Michigan, Maryland, Southern Cal, Miami, Georgia and LSU. He has made three visits to USC. Along with his official visit to Michigan, he has been unofficially to Southern Cal and Maryland.

Harbor also is one of the top high school track athletes int he country as a sprinter, and the track programs will play a role in his final decision.

While at the school, Harris said the USC coaches also checked in on 2024 LB Nasir Smith (6-0 200) and 2026 SAF Darrel Carey (6-2 160).
