Sandstorm, its our thing!

Recommended Posts

I am sure this will be, shall we say not liked but here goes.

I attended games from 1980 thru the 1990's. Have great memories beating So Cal and hearing U-S-C all the way to the parking lot. Raynard and beating Fla State are just a couple. Attending the 84 Gator Bowl (close) the 85 Gator Bowl (not close).

I have over the years watched schools promote special games in special ways. Penn State is the best white out ever, Tenn hard to beat their checkerboard stands, the list goes on and on. We have tried white out and black outs but we seem to never be able to get everyone on board. So that has me thinking, smell the sawdust burning?

How can we better capitalize on "SANDSTORM" since its our thing? Here a several thoughts that have not been fully explored, so lets start.

Add a sandstorm to the big board. Lots of video out there that would be impressive. As the storm rolls to the front of the board sand colored smoke appears from the edges of the board. The players running through sand colored smoke at the same time. Fans waving thousands of sand colored towels. All this as sandstorm plays. Not every game but special games.

Thoughts? Be gentle I am a sensitive Gamecock. LOL

White out black out just win,, I mean all of it's great but if you don't have the talent why do it.  The focus needs to be on winning ball games the fans

will get into it, the fans aren't loud enough that is because of the talent on the field.  You have to have great players.

There's nothing wrong with risking a little architectural disaster every now and then.

Find a way to maybe upset the Aggies, keep struttin' the throwback unis for the Gators at W-B the next week and rock the house with Louie, Louie while we're taking them down, too.

Just like old times.

We did just win, FFS. Uniforms don't win games, WE GET IT. Sandstorm isn't as good as a 5-star defensive end. WE GET IT. Nobody is arguing the most least common denominator argument point of all time, that better players = more wins. We don't have better players, we have who we've got. You say "the focus needs to be on winning ball games" ...  whose focus? Because whether I'm talking about Sandstorm or My Grant Aunt Ida's bunion, IT DOESN'T MAKE A %^&* DIFFERENCE IN THE SCORE, right? There are publicity and marketing people thinking up ways to get the fans involved - Shane isn't up late at night coming up with taglines and uniform trim combinations, dude.

All points above very valid but as a football guy I understand that, we all do. What I am talking about is the fan/student/TV experience. When we were wining with SOS  all the team had to do s show up no fanfare just beat the opponent. Sandstorm or not we just won. This is not that today? All comments appreciated and so noted, GO Gamecocks!

They let the alumni band play Louie, Louie

I had looked all over for our band doing the song sometime last year, but couldn't find anything until you did.  Pts.

The young kids today don't really know how to dance; they just stand around looking at their smartphones.

So I don't think we would have the problem with swayin' like we did in the '80s as far as the student section goes.

I think the band should play it during the TV timeouts after a crucial defensive stop or score and do a little behavior modification.

But that's just me.  LOL
