'That was a war out there tonight': Beamer breaks down the Gamecocks' 40-13 loss to Georgia

Sept. 19, 2021

BEAMER QUOTES

Beamer: Expects that Doty will be sore tomorrow, but he thinks he's good health wise. On the Vann unsportsmanlike penalty, that's not how they are going to play football at South Carolina. Vann has done a great job for them this season but can't penalties like that.

Beamer: Saw some physical runs by his guys, nothing he saw up front that can't be fixed.

Beamer: Thought Doty did great; Brad Johnson was sick all day and wasn't 100 percent; Doty didn't get into full team drills until Thursday, started Noland because he'd played well last two weeks, no reservations putting Doty in.

Beamer: Greene has lower leg injury, out for a while, Noland has cut on hand, don't think it's broken, had no feeling in the hand; Cam Smith out second half, foot was stepped on, same one previously injured.

Beamer: Georgia defense is big, physical and fast, loaded with five star recruits and they play really physical.

Beamer: Saw signs from his team that leave him very excited about the team, Foster played well, they tackled well, receivers made some good plays and lot to build on there. Have to get better before next week. Saw signs of a team with a chance to be good.

Beamer: Georgia has a hell of a football team, they played great, knew it would be a physical, violent game, proud of his guys, they played with a lot of physicality, thought his guys competed. Can't help a great football team, and they did that tonight.

Sorry, it's time to stop saying it and start fixing it. Had three games now where the O line play was terrible and our allegedly strong run game was anything but.

Do you think this is just a magic wand that gets waved, and POOF, things are all better?  It takes time.  These guys have been doing things wrong during the whole last staff, and in three games they’re supposed to completely turn it around?  Give them a break. They could have been perfect last night, and we were still outclassed. The biggest takeaway on this was that the team didn’t quit! That didn’t happen last year.  If Chump was still the coach, they would have checked out after the first quarter.

Right.

And we knew we were unlikely to establish the run against that powerful UGA defense, yet we still tried to do it when we were more successful in the air early on.

Noland had a pretty quick release that seemed to work against UGA until he got hurt.  We didn't pass enough, but it was all a moot point after Noland went out.

Concur.  I will also add that some of those missed blocks looked intentional.

If Doty doesn't do well, then Brown would be the next man up.  Is it possible that some of the players are more supportive of Brown that they would intentionally miss blocks to give Brown his chance to play?

The QBs looked pretty supportive of one another in all of our games so far, but are some of the other offensive players picking their own favorite QBs to play?

I know that sounds goofy, but this is a goofy-ass team.

What if Brown has put a lot more time than Doty into learning the playbook and some players don't want Doty to start or get more PT than Brown because of it?

I will agree that some did look intentional.  Perhaps you are right, I have no idea, but it will be interesting to see it play out.
