0-0 top 1st inning:

Sanders retires the side on two ground outs and a strike out around a walk.

0-0 Bottom 1st inning:

Brady Allen leads off – he reaches 1st safe on a throwing error from the Davidson 3B that was confirmed on review. Braylen Wimmer walks on 4 pitches and we have something started here.

Wes Clarke hits into a double play, and Allen is at 3B with 2 outs.

Josiah Sightler singles to drive in Allen, and we salvage a run anyways!

Sightler attempts a steal on the pitcher, but the Wildcat catcher throws him out for the final out.

NO WAIT!! The review on the play at 2B shows Sightler reaches safely, and the call is overturned!

Andrew Eyster is hit by a pitch. Now it’s Gamecocks on 2B and 1B, 2 outs.

David Mendham flies out for the final out for real, this time.

1-0 Gamecocks, top 2nd….

1-0 Yardcocks, top 2nd inning:

For some reason, Daniel Lloyd comes in to relieve Sanders. Not sure why.

Lloyd strikes out the lead-off Davidson batter. He hits the next batter.

Lloyd strikes out the next batter for the 2nd out. Then he walks the next batter. Feast or famine!

But its feast time now: he gets the next batter to fly out for the final out.

1-0  Yardcocks, bottom 2nd inning:

Jeff Heinrich, Jalen Vasquez, and George Callil up next for the Gamecocks.

Heinrich singles to lead off. He attempts to steal 2B, and is caught stealing by the catcher. This time it stands.

Vasquez is walked.

A new pitcher comes in for Davidson. Both starting pitchers were on very strict pitching counts.

Vasquez reaches 2nd on a wild pitch, but Callil strikes out. 2 outs with the top of the order up.

Allen flies out to end the inning.

1-0 Yardcocks top 3rd ….

1-0 Gamecocks, top 3rd inning:

Travis Leunsmann comes in for Lloyd.

He gives up a double, a single, then a 2-RBI double to the first 3 Davidson batters he faces. He then gets the 1st out on a fly out to right field to Allen. The Wildcat on 2B advances to 3B.

The next batter reaches 1st safely on a bad throw from Heinrich at 3B, and they are on the corners with 1 out.

That’s it for Luensmann, as Jackson Phipps comes in.

The first batter he faces strikes out. 2 outs now. The next batter however singles in the man on 3rd, and now they are on 2B and 1B with 2 outs.

The play at home was reviewed, and the call of safe stands.

The Wildcat on 2B successfully steals 3rd.

The next batter doubles driving in two more runs. Hooboy….

Phipps gets the final out finally on a strikeout, but not before 5 runs score on 5 hits and an error. We have some work to do now….

5-1 Davidson, bottom 3rd ….

5-2 Davidson, top 4th inning:

Phipps takes the mound. He walks the lead-off batter. The next batter successfully bunts on base, and there are two men on and 0 outs. We’ve not done well with putting opposing batters on base to start innings all season.

The next batter strikes out for the 1st out.

The next batter reaches on a fielder’s choice for the 2nd out at 2B, but there are men on the corners.

Brett Thomas comes in for Phipps.

The Wildcat on 1st advances to 2nd on a wild pitch, and the next batter walks, and bases are loaded. Crap….

The next batter hits a 2-RBI double. Our batters are not hitting much, and our pitchers are not pitching much these days. This team has regressed something fierce….

7-2 Davidson, top 4th inning….

The Davidson man on 1B steals 2B, and both are now in scoring position. But the next batter strikes out to end the rampage.

7-2 Davidson, bottom 4th....

9-4 Davidson, top 9th inning....

The Gamecocks have hit decently in this game, but has been out-hit and out-pitched by the Wildcats. They have the crooked-number scoring innings, while we've just had four one-run innings. Not enough, and we've been left behind in this scoring contest. We have one more inning to change that....

Now Davidson's regular closer comes into the game.
