Rocker gone

Recommended Posts

Meh. Rocker had a rep for being both a good recruiter and a good coach - but he had more talent than any position coach on the staff and our D Line was our biggest weak spot last year. I was hoping that it was just taking a little time for the players to learn what he was teaching them, but maybe he just was not teaching them.

He is an Aubie guy anyhoo - I think we can find someone better. I just hope that our current players do not jump ship because they lost their position coach,

Let him go, this is more of BOBO coming too light, I truly believe now that the players left the coaches were telling them to just hold on they were going somewhere else. this has gotten interesting probably will try to convince some good kids to come with him , an ass is an ass people show you who they are, they don't change if they are real a holes.

Our top D Line recruits are in-state players - I doubt they want to head to the plains and leave family/friends/teammates. Enagbare might be an exception, since he is from GA.

Because one of our wins was over them?

Well they seem to be throwing big $$ at what they can get. The pay for Bobo was a surprise.

I'm just not that upset about this and I wouldn't be that excited about it if I was Auburn. I'm not typically an optimist, but I honestly like the replacements better than the coaches that were going to stay.

It will be interesting how they fare and maybe telling if the HC was the issue.

Sure it was...I think there's a reason why loyalty and "welcome home" are themes being currently pushed.

Some of the criticisms from former players were about this.

I put on a happy face when he was hired because what is the option - but the guy is the definition of mercenary.

Quote

The well-traveled Rocker spent two seasons (2018-19) at Tennessee, his fifth different stop in the SEC before arriving at South Carolina for the 2020 season. He has also logged Division I stints at Georgia (2014-16), Auburn (2009-10), Ole Miss (2008), Arkansas (2003-07), Cincinnati (2002), and Troy State (1997-01). In addition, he spent three seasons with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans (2011-13). He mentored the defensive line in each of those stops, but was also given the additional title of Associate Head Coach while at Georgia in 2015.

Well it likely was smart of Shane to not dump all the coaches and start over.

But there's also the possibility that Rocker was told to look elsewhere and Shane knew he was going to leave.

We hired Ellis Johnson knowing he was likely a short timer. Some coaches are like that. I do hope we can keep Kitchens.

Are there any Gamecock alum Dline coaches/players out there who want to continue the "coming home" trend?

Cliff Matthews is the DL coach at Limestone. Might be too big a jump but talk about a guy you'd love to have back in the fold...

Happens with a major overhaul, just seems so much worse with the portal the way it is now.

not really the guys that left could have been the main reason team was 2-8 ,  he will get an upgrade no doubt, hell the d line was part of the problem last year.
