Guess we need to get a Softball season thread started. We can post various game/series results and news here throughout the season. The Gamecocks Softball team are doing pretty well thus far in the early season: they are ranked #22 in the nation, and are 7-3 on the season, with losses to Texas Tech (1-5), Ohio State (6-8) and Washington (4-5), the current #1 team in the nation. All these losses were in the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite National Tournament in Clearwater, FL.

Now the Gamecocks are hosting their own tournament - the Gamecocks Invitational - at Beckham Field, which includes #8 Michigan, Iowa St., Boston College, Liberty, and Elon. USC just defeated BC 3-2. They take on Michigan and Iowa State Saturday in a double-header format. The games start off at 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM, respectively...

In their first game today of a scheduled double-header, #22 Softball picked up a huge 3-0 win over #8 Michigan at Beckham Field in their 2020 Gamecocks Invitational. Starting pitcher Karsen Ochs (3-0) pitched a complete game shutout as she went 7.0 innings, allowing only 2 hits and 1 walk. Madison Owens provided all the offense the Gamecocks would need, going 1-3 with a 2-RBI home-run in the 2nd inning. Lauren Stewart provided the other score, going 1-3 with the hit being a RBI triple in the 5th inning.

The Gamecocks 8-3 play again later tonight against Iowa State, starting off at 8 PM. Tough game schedule for the girls, as Colonial Life will be packed full tonight.......
