Boykins hitting the Transfer Portal

Recommended Posts

I thought this kid was going to be a good one.  I am not sure if he was frustrated that he was not getting on the field?  With the three we have out there right now playing well, maybe he did not think he was getting on the field as soon as he had hoped, but there will be room for him next year.  Anyone got the inside scoop?

These are my thoughts too.

Perhaps this transfer portal shit needs a few restrictions. I've transferred between colleges before and dealt with the crapshoot involved with class equivalency, so I cannot imagine that this is something that should be the norm if we are trying to maintain that ruse of "student" athletes.

I am going to call it the portal potty needs adjustments.

Freshman South Carolina football linebacker Derek Boykins put his name in the NCAA transfer portal, a USC spokesperson confirmed Tuesday afternoon. Boykins appeared in one game for the Gamecocks, recording three tackles against Charleston Southern in 18 snaps in garbage time.

i wish he would stay, but no problem with the portal whatsoever.  coaches and individual schools shouldnt be able to block a player from going to their preferred next stop.  my question is how do you handle transfers, immediately eligible, sit out a year, or immediately eligible your 1st transfer, sit out a year for any following transfers.

they dragged getting around to it but we did eventually get nick muse this year so its not all bad.  as for boykins we'll see where his next stop is and if theres an explanation for the move.

Needs adjustments that's what I was referring too. To easy yes kinda like the NFL. I grow up in the 50s and early 60s and players where you heroes more or less and you follow your team so many years knowing your favorite player was their on your team. Players played for the love of the game not contracts and money, when drafted they had no option but to play for that team.  All pro leagues, NBA etc all are for the payout. To me just not the same, really not enjoyable watching a bunch of millionaires playing games. Now it's looking like it is creeping collage sports.

Unless they have graduated from their school with a degree - it should be automatic that the player wanting to transfer "has to sit out for one year - be it a bigger school or a smaller school"!  Might make some of this stuff stop.  I also think it is part of the culture of "I Want It Now Mentality"!!!  Just because you were a "Super Stud" in high school, this does not always translate to you being a "Stud" in your freshman year at a major school.  Some just can't make the mental adjustment and and learn to mature and learn the game as it moves so much faster in college.
