Some new video of 7’ 5-Star Gamecock legacy John Butler Jr. From this AAU season. Do you know anything on this kid doublea1971? Hope we can get in the picture with him

John Butler Jr. is a Truly Unique Talent by Jamie Shaw  phenomhoopreport.com

Ask anyone around the state and they will tell you that John Butler Jr. is next up. If the recent run of talent tells you anything, coming from the state of South Carolina, that means something.

Recently, South Carolina has produced some major talent. Especially the top player in each class, has been considered among the top prospects in the country. The likes of Sindarius Thornwell and LJ Peak, PJ Dozier, Seventh Woods, Jalek Felton and Nick Claxton, Zion Williamson, Josiah James, etc…have all claimed the top (two) spots in South Carolina as well as Top 30 or so spots in the nation.

South Carolina’s 2021 class is lining up to be as good of a class as any of them. Even the 2017 class which saw nice players get recruited at the high major level. The 2021 class is shaping up to have no shortage of high major prospects, with ten or so players at this time looking to be recruited at that level.

That group of players is led by 6’11” sophomore John Butler Jr. from Christ Church High School in Greenville, South Carolina. At the most recent Nike Elite 100 Camp, which brings the best underclassmen in the country together to compete each year, Butler measured an enormous 7’3” wing span.

I can tell you that he's on the radar of pretty much every program in the country.  The only "in" we have with him is that his mother (as the article you quote from notes) played for USC back in the late 90's.  He's going to have offers from everywhere on the continental US before it's all said and done.  I hope that we've had every available coach at every available game where we can visit.  IF, and that's a huge if, we can show that Frank can develop his talent defensively even further, then he might give SC a look.  He's got major program (i.e. - Kentucky, Duke, UNC, Michigan State, etc.) written all over him at this point, though.  He's primarily an interior defender and shot blocker, but he can shoot pretty well too.

It's guys like this that MAKE a major program.

We missed on Zion, just got Seventh for a brief loaner, and previously had Thornwell and Dozier in the fold....we can't miss on this kid if it's our goal to be a major program.

I, personally, think it's a long shot to get him.  However, he's got some Gamecock ties and may like having a "hometown" crowd.  If we can, I would make him a priority for his class.

Shouldn't we let these primadonnas go to UK or Duke to lose in the NCAAs and move on to the NBA-DL?  (wink)
