Gamecocks still projected to make NCAA Tournament

May 11, 2017

South Carolina has dropped six straight SEC series, but D1Baseball and Baseball America still have the Gamecocks making the NCAA Tournament in their latest projections.

D1Baseball has USC as a No. 3 seed playing in the Winston Salem, N.C., Regional along with No. 1 seed Wake Forest, No. 2 seed Maryland and No. 4 seed UNC Wilmington.

In its projections D1Baseball has the winner of the Winston Salem Regional meeting the winner of the Corvallis Regional, which features Oregon State. The Beavers are projected as the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament.

Baseball America also has South Carolina slated to play in the Winston Salem, N.C., Regional as a No. 3 seed with the Demon Deacons as the No. 1 seed, South Florida the No. 2 seed and Liberty the No. 4 seed.

In Baseball America’s projections the winner of the Winston Salem regional would face the winner of the Gainesville, Fla., Regional featuring No. 3 overall seed Florida.

The Gamecocks host Liberty Wednesday night before beginning a three-game series with Missouri on Friday.
