Sunday Night Conference Call: Shane Beamer reviews Georgia loss

Sept. 18, 2022

Coach Beamer said on his conference call with the media Sunday night that after seeing Georgia Saturday afternoon at Williams-Brice Stadium, the Bulldogs look every bit as good as the team that won it all last season. As for his team, Beamer said the players are hurting from the lopsided nature of the loss and are anxious to return to practice Tuesday to work on the things that need improvement. Beamer said that while the coaches have to do a better job, they are putting the players in a position to make plays. The players have to make those plays on offense and defense.

On the health front, Beamer said he’s expecting all the players who missed Saturday’s game, including WR Corey Rucker, to be able to play this Saturday night against Charlotte. And the two who left Saturday’s game with injuries, Devone Reed and Darius Rush, had positive tests today and he’s optimistic they’ll be able to play as well.

QUOTES

Beamer:
Not where they want to be right now, they've lost to two top 10 teams, including #1, not doing enough good things and it's his job to figure out why, lot of players hurting today after that loss and they're looking forward to practice Tuesday
Beamer: Got to healthy on defense, that helps the depth there and on special teams, played a lot of true freshmen on defense vs Georgia and they played well.
Beamer: Georgia doesn't look much different than how they looked last season.
Beamer: All he did after the game was text recruits, the recruits he had with him on dinner weren't caught up in the result, more about the atmosphere and more about what they are doing with the program. Yesterday was not a good day but there are good days to come.
Beamer: Proud of Luke Doty in his time on the field, thought he did a good job.
Beamer: Loves McDowell, brings energy and competes, they are a better team when McDowell is on the field.
Beamer: They put guys in position to make plays and plays need to be made, missed tackles, and they've got to coach better to continue to put them in position to make plays, been pleased with how they've been practicing but they have to be better.
Beamer: Pleased with the overall look of the offense and with the play calls, he understands the why of every call, what the gameplan is and what they're trying to get done, it's not good enough but knows they will be better.
Beamer: Rush and Reed had good test results today and optimistic they can play this week along with all the other guys who missed Saturday, including Corey Rucker.
Beamer: They had a poor start yesterday, Stetson Bennett was outstanding, he's more than a game manager, very impressed with him, disappointed with way they started the second half.
Beamer: Felt McDowell played well, Emmanwori and Bam Scott played well, Hunter Rogers on the special teams, Jalen Brooks played well, Kenion and Kroeger.
Beamer: Thanks for the fans for the atmosphere, as soon as game was over went back to recruiting and that's all the recruits could talk about was the atmosphere at the game, his meeting this morning with recruits they talked about the atmosphere.
Beamer: On the delay of the game on that 4th down play while students were leaving the field after a Title 9 presentation during the time out, he was not aware what was going on and apologizes to anyone offended by his actions as he was trying to get the plan going.
