USC picked up its first running back commitment for the 2013 class Sunday in Jamari Smith (5-11 195) of Neptune Beach, FL. Smith said he chose the Gamecocks over Wake Forest. He also had offers from Arkansas, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Penn State and Virginia. “I just felt like South Carolina was a better place,” said Smith who visited the campus in March. “When I took the tour, I felt good there. They are nice people and I felt they could be part of my family.” Last season Smith rushed for 2100 yards and 28 touchdowns. He says he’s a north-south runner with good explosion. “Coach (Everette) Sands said he likes the way I run the ball and he could see me as a tailback playing for him,” Smith said. He’s the 19th commitment for USC’s 2013 class.
