  1. Gamecocks looking north of the border for talent May 15, 2019, | By SportsTalk Radio Network USC is one of the latest major programs to take notice of WR Malick Meiga (6-4 190) of Montreal. The Gamecocks offered earlier this week joining the likes of Tennessee, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Baylor and West Virginia in offering the speedster who was a relative unknown until a standout showing at a recent camp. “Everything started when I went to The Opening-Ohio. I started blowing up a little bit,” Meiga said. Next was an appearance at a camp in Washington, DC, and his reputation took another jump. “I went there last week and I did pretty good. So, then I blow up again and then I got the offer from South Carolina. They saw my numbers on Twitter and saw a little video of me and they reached me and said they really like me. They said potentially I could be a good player on their team.” USC receivers coach and offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon is the one who contacted Meiga. He has started to build a relationship and also lay out for him what USC is all about. “It’s a pretty good place. I will most likely go to visit for a camp there to try to get that relationship with their coaches,” Meiga said. “It be looking pretty nice. I will try my best to come.but for me it’s pretty difficult, but for sure I will try.” No doubt it’s a large leap from Canadian prep school football and the SEC, but Meiga said he’s confident in his skills and believes he can meet the standards of that league or any of the other major conferences. “For sure, for sure,” he said. “I need to do my work but I’d be playing for sure. If I work for it, I’ll play for sure. And definitely I’m going to work for it.” Speed and size are Meiga’s greatest allies. He said in the recent camp he was officially timed in the forty at 4.42. Last season he displayed that speed and big-play skills with 29 catches for 682 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has not taken any visits thus far but he plans to get to some camps this summer. He has spring practice this weekend and his recruiter from West Virginia plans to be there. There is no favorite at this point. “I’m taking my time with it,” said Meiga who won’t graduate until next spring
