The Gamecocks are battling Mississippi State and Ole Miss for Blanton, and White apparently helped his cause with this visit. “Oh, it was awesome. We had a great time,” Blanton said. “He came and saw me at school first, watched a little bit of (baseball) practice, then came over and had dinner with me and my parents. We had a really good time. And it was his birthday today.” White and Blanton have been in regular contact for months. Blanton made his official visit to Columbia in June, and he attended two games this season. So, there wasn’t much need to spend a lot of time talking football and schemes. “There wasn’t a whole lot of football being talked about,” Blanton said. “This was kind of a real personable visit, and it meant a lot to us that he came all the way from South Carolina to see us. We didn’t talk a whole lot about football. We talked not necessarily about my role, we talked about South Carolina football, not necessarily about my role individually.” But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t some intensity in the conversation. “He knows that the decision is coming up shortly because I’m signing December 15th,” Blanton said. “He’s a great coach, an even better guy. He’s an even better man. We always love getting to talk to him and getting to sit down with him for that long was super great. We could be really personable, and that’s one of the things I’m looking for, and trust him and trust the process and culture.” Mississippi State also was in this week to see Blanton. He’s expecting USC head coach Shane Beamer and White to return Tuesday. He’s also looking for Bulldogs defensive coordinator Zach Arnett to return next week, and possibly an in-home with Ole Miss as well. After all of that, it will be go time on a decision. “The plan is either right after the visits, if I feel called and led by God to make that decision then, then it will happen then,” he said. “If not, it could lead all the way up to Signing Day. They are all great people. It’s a tough decision.” Blanton has been a Mississippi State baseball commitment but that is secondary to his final decision which will be based solely on the football opportunity.
  2. Blanton to make return trip to see Gamecocks By SPORTSTALK / November 24, 2021 4 star LB Stone Blanton (6-2 220) of Madison, MS remains one of the top targets for USC in the 2022 class. He took an official visit to Columbia in June and was back for the Eastern Illinois game in early September. This weekend the Gamecock coaches will get another chance to meet with Blanton as he plans to take in the Palmetto Bowl two days after attending the Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State in Starkville on Thanksgiving night. The Gamecocks are one of four teams Blanton is still considering along with Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Texas A&M as he eyes a decision before or on December 15th, the first day of the Early Signing Period. “Nothing really has changed,” Blanton said. “I was really focused on finishing my season up strong (won a 3rd straight state title). Now I get to relax a little bit and focus on my decision. The period when coaches can come see me (starting Sunday) will be real important. I’ll be able to get to see the coaches and get have them come here to where I am, so that will be a good experience.” Mississippi State is coming in to see Blanton next week, and he said USC will be in the following week. Blanton said the conversations with USC head coach Shane Beamer and defensive coordinator Clayton White remain positive. “It’s really good,” he said. “I really enjoy getting to talk with coach White and coach Beamer. We talk a good bit, so I really enjoy them, and it’s been good getting to know them.” Blanton also has been to see games this season at Ole Miss and Mississippi State. He visited Texas A&M last summer. Blanton doesn’t claim a favorite though he’s been a Mississippi State baseball commitment for over two years. But he has said his final commitment will be based strictly on the football side of things.

In the summer he made official visits to USC, Louisville and Stanford. His final four have been USC, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Texas A&M, which he visited unofficially in June. Blanton has not set a timeline for a decision, and as thinks about what he wants to do, he’s relying on a higher power for guidance. “I’m still praying about it. Wherever God leads me is where I’m trying to go,” Blanton said. I’m talking it over with my family and all that. That’s where I’m at right now. Just going to pray about it. Pray about it, pray about it. That’s my plan right now.” Blanton has been a Mississippi State baseball commitment, but his decision will be football-based. He went back to Starkville last weekend with his family and that trip rekindled some familiar feelings. “It was awesome,” Blanton said. “The baseball coaches are amazing, and I’ve known them for a long time now. Getting to see them and getting to walk around the facility again with my family was really awesome. And hanging out with football, building those relationships even better, was really good. We had a great time.” Blanton felt the same about his Ole Miss visit. And he felt very good about USC after his visit there in June. He remains in regular contact with defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Clayton White. “Just keep building the relationship and talking to them and getting to know them better and them getting to know me better,” said Blanton who is considering a return visit for a game this season. He’s also considering a visit to Texas A&M for a game before making his decision.
