  2. Gamecocks set for Saturday sit down with Sandidge FEBRUARY 2, 2018 BY PHIL KORNBLUT LINK: SPORTSTALK Rick Sandidge USC’s Will Muschamp has saved his final pitch of the 2018 recruiting season for one of his biggest targets, DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC. The Shrine Bowler and Under Armour All American is down to the Gamecocks and Georgia. The Bulldogs were in Wednesday. Muschamp and company will visit with him Saturday. “Georgia came to school Wednesday and met with him for about an hour and then the coaches went and had dinner with the family,” said Concord coach Glenn Padgett. “It went well with them.” The Bulldogs seemed top open up Sandidge’s eyes on his official visit there last month and supplanted North Carolina as the strongest threat to USC. The Gamecocks have long been perceived the favorite because of family ties to the school and his regular visits for camps and games, though Sandidge has never publicly named a favorite. Padgett said there’s reasons to believe both schools can come away the winner. “For Georgia, one, they played for the national championship, they do a good job and they have really built that program. At the same time, you look at South Carolina and they are appealing because they’ve built their program, and he feels like he’s really a priority for then, he’s a focal point for them. I think that’s true, too. He’s a big focal point for what Coach Muschamp wants to do defensively. From a young man’s point of view and a parental point of view, that’s very appealing.” Sandidge plans to wait until Wednesday to announce. No time has been set but the school traditionally holds it’s announcement ceremony in the afternoon.
  3. DL Rick Sandidge on his official visit to USC JANUARY 28, 2018 BY PHIL KORNBLUT LINK: SPORTSTALK Rick Sandidge Shrine Bowl DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC made his official visit to USC over the weekend. It was his latest exposure to the Gamecocks. He has taken several unofficial visits and he watched several of their games this season. His mother, a USC grad, and other family members joined him on the visit. “Just had a really good time and got to mix with the coaches and the players. Had a really good time,” Sandidge said. “No goals really, just building that relationship really.” Sandidge said he had the chance to sit down again with Will Muschamp and the message was the same he’s heard repeatedly from the Gamecock head coach. “He said I’m a priority multiple times,” Sandidge said. “They kept on saying that. He said I’m going to get playing time as a freshman.” Sandidge said he was hosted by DJ Wonnum and Kobe Smith. Sandidge said the head coaches will be in his home this week and he will make his decision this week and notify the school but he won’t announce his decision until Signing Day. He said USC, Georgia and North Carolina are still in it and he did not indicate any separation among the three at this point.
  4. It’s a two horse race for 4 star DL Rick Sandidge JANUARY 25, 2018 BY PHIL KORNBLUT LINK: SPORTSTALK Rick Sandidge North Carolina appears to have faded as USC and Georgia battle to the finish for DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC. That’s the assessment of his coach who watched from a very close position as Gamecock and Bulldog coaches made strong pitches this week. “I think it’s Georgia and South Carolina. North Carolina is out of it, that’s my gut, but crazier things have happened,” said Concord coach Glenn Padgett. “I can’t give you an answer right now and I don’t think he can either. He’s torn. They (Sandidge and his family) think both coaching staffs are great. They are trying to decide which one he’s the best fit for and which one he can help be successful.” In looking at the two defensive schemes and trying to decide which is the best fit, Padgett said that’s a coin-flip because of the way defenses are run today. “They do things differently. USC is an even front, Georgia an odd front. But the defenses are so multiple. They do a little bit of everything to put them in position to win.” Sandidge has taken his official visits to Georgia and North Carolina and will visit USC this weekend. He is expected to wait until Signing Day to reveal his decision.
  5. Gamecocks get in to see 4 star DL Rick Sandidge Monday JANUARY 15, 2018 BY PHIL KORNBLUT LINK: SPORTSTALK Rick Sandidge DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC made his official visit to Georgia over the weekend. He liked it and the visit further established the Bulldogs as a major contender along with USC and North Carolina. Monday several Gamecock coaches had dinner with Sandidge, his family and coach to reestablish their position in the competition. Sandidge said Longhorns was the setting for the sit down with Gamecock coaches Travaris Robinson, Lance Thompson and Bobby Bentley. “They were telling me what they can provide for me and what I can do for them, stuff like that,” Sandidge said. “I had a good time, had a fun time eating with them.” Sandidge got some one-on-one time with Georgia coach Kirby Smart on his official visit there and he said he also enjoyed meeting several of the players. “I can say I got a better relationship with Georgia after the visit,” he said adding that the visit opened his eyes to Georgia and moved the Bulldogs up with him. “I got more of a relationship with the players. And Coach Smart was talking about I’m not a want, I’m a need, too. They impressed me a lot and their defense is really good. Something that I see is good competition there in practice.” North Carolina will have coaches in to see Sandidge on Tuesday and he will take his official visit there this weekend. He visits USC officially on January 26th. He won’t make his announcement until February 7th but he will decide before then and notify the schools. And Sandidge knows what he wants to see from the school he chooses. “Can I live there, can I get playing time and can I build my brand while I’m there.”
  6. USC has done its part with DL Rick Sandidge JANUARY 10, 2018 BY PHIL KORNBLUT LINK: SPORTSTALK Rick Sandidge Shrine Bowl DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC is down to USC, Georgia and North Carolina with the Gamecocks and Bulldogs in the strongest position according to his coach. He is scheduled for an official visit to Georgia this weekend. “I think South Carolina continues to do a great job recruiting him,” said Concord coach Glenn Padgett. “He’s very familiar with Coach Bentley and TRob (Travaris Robinson), and Coach Muschamp has done a great job of staying in touch with him.” Sandidge saw the Gamecocks play in person four times this season and the fact they won nine games, including a bowl game victory over Michigan, has them in a favorable light with him. “They are a young team and he really likes what he sees with what they are doing on defense and where they are heading,” Padgett said. “South Carolina continues to do a great job recruiting him. Of the three, South Carolina has been recruiting him the longest and has done an outstanding job with him.” Sandidge is scheduled for his official visit to North Carolina January 19th and USC on the 26th. He won’t announce a decision until Signing Day.
  7. Gamecocks will get last shot with Rick Sandidge December 14, 2017 South Carolina will get the last chance to make an impression with Rick Sandidge. The Concord (NC) defensive lineman will visit USC last in his four official visits, according to Rivals’ Adam Friedman. Sandidge will visit Georgia on Jan. 12, North Carolina on Jan. 19, Michigan on Jan. 26 and then USC on Feb. 2. He will announce his choice Feb. 7. The Gamecocks have been recruiting Sandidge, a four-star prospect, for a while and he said he has a great relationship with defensive line coach Lance Thompson. “They have been recruiting me hard so that helps out a lot,” Sandidge said of the Gamecocks after Monday’s first practice for the Shrine Bowl. “I gave a great relationship with coach Thompson for about two and a half years and I am getting to know him more as a coach.” The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder had 83 tackles and seven sacks during his senior season for Concord.
  8. DL Rick Sandidge confirms plans for return to USC NOVEMBER 17, 2017 BY PHIL KORNBLUT Link: sportstalk Rick Sandidge DL Rick Sandidge has been a frequent visitor to USC games this season. He’s been to four and Thursday night he confirmed plans for a fifth. He will be among the prospects on hand for the Clemson game, on an unofficial visit, and said his family and a couple of teammates will join him. Sandidge did not go to a game last weekend and is not going anywhere this weekend. And he said he’s not finalized plans for his official visits yet but is looking at USC, Georgia, North Carolina and Michigan. He said those four are the ones recruiting him hard at this point. He’s aware of the recruiting underworld scuttlebutt that he’s most likely headed to USC but he’s about to endorse those rumors at this point. “I don’t pay any attention to it. People are saying that because of my family ties (to USC), but they are about like all the other schools really.” Sandidge said he talked recently with the Gamecocks and his relationship with Will Muschamp and Lance Thompson remains good. “They are just being real cool,” he said. “I enjoy talking to them. They’ve just told me it would be a big opportunity if I come to them. It’s just a huge opportunity.” Sandidge said he won’t announce his final decision until National Signing Day in February.
  9. DL Rick Sandidge might return to USC for Clemson game NOVEMBER 9, 2017 BY PHIL KORNBLUT Link: sportstalk Rick Sandidge DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC does not have a visit planned for this weekend. He has seen USC play four times this season, twice i n Columbia, and has also been to Virginia Tech and Georgia for games. It’s possible he’ll see the Gamecocks for a fifth time as he said Wednesday night he’s looking at another visit for the Clemson game. Sandidge was in Athens last Saturday for the USC-Georgia game, his first game at Sanford Stadium, and he said it was a good visit and, “It looks like they are really interested in me.” Like most prospects, Sandidge is checking out depth charts at the various schools he’s considering to see where he might fit in best. But he’s not going to base his decision on where he thinks he will play the earliest. “I know that I’m going to have to work to get reps and rotated and stuff like that,” he said. “I pay attention to the depth chart and all that stuff but there’s going to be players wherever you go, really.” As for his official visits, Sandidge had some schools and dates in mind but he said he’s going to have to reschedule all of them. “I’ve got to start over,” he said. “Just changing some things.” USC has always been in good position for an official visit from Sandidge and he said that is one that will not change. “They’ve always been good,” Sandidge said. “They call or text almost every day really. Coach Muschamp, Coach Bentley, Coach Thompson. Once again had a good time (on the visit for Vanderbilt game), really enjoyed my time with my teammates.” Sandidge said he has no time frame at this time for making his decision.
  10. DL Rick Sandidge returns form visit to North Carolina September 11, 2017 DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC took made an unofficial visit to North Carolina over the weekend and told the Tar Heel 247 site he will visit USC unofficially this weekend, but like he did with UNC, he will treat it as an official visit staying overnight Saturday
  11. UNC next up for DL Rick Sandidge SEPTEMBER 6, 2017 BY PHIL KORNBLUT Link: sportstalk Rick Sandidge DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC was in Charlotte Saturday to watch the USC-NC State game. The Gamecocks are one of the teams on his short list. This Saturday he’ll see two more of his favorites as he goes to Chapel Hill to watch North Carolina take on Louisville. Sandidge said he didn’t really focus that much on the Gamecocks’ defensive line Saturday because he was at the game more as a general football fan. “I just had a good time really,” he said. “I was paying attention (to the Gamecocks) but at the same time I wasn’t. I was just like enjoying the time being there. I was noticing they were making good plays and stuff. Their defense did good and I was impressed.” Sandidge said he hears from USC coach Will Muschamp via text almost daily. Sandidge said he’s not sure about any other game visits and he’s in the process of setting his official visits. He has said four of the visits will be to Ohio State, Florida, Penn State and Louisville. Once he gets all the dates set he plans to release that information on Twitter. He said he does not have a favorite.
  12. DL Rick Sandidge set with four official visits AUGUST 29, 2017 BY PHIL KORNBLUT Link: sportstalk Rick Sandidge USC target DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC revealed Monday night four of his official visits and one certain date. Sandidge has seven schools on his short list so not all will get official visits, but he said that won’t affect his thinking about those schools. Sandidge said one of his official visits will be to Michigan for the Ohio State game in late November. That’s his only official with a date right now. He said three other official visits he plans to schedule are with Florida, Penn State and Louisville. He’s undecided about his fifth visit with USC, Virginia Tech and Georgia left on his short list. “I don’t know about taking an official to South Carolina because it’s right there,” Sandidge said. “That really won’t affect my decision. Just because I don’t choose South Carolina for an official that doesn’t affect their chances at all. I live less than two hours away.” Sandidge said he’s in daily contact with the Gamecocks and they have invited him as their guest for the NC State game in Charlotte, and he’s considering going to that. Sandidge said all of his final seven schools remain in the mix and no one stands out. He’s been to USC several times already and feels a connection to the school and the staff. “We really have a good relationship, it’s a real good connection with South Carolina,” Sandidge said adding Will Muschamp is planning to scout him September 22nd. Sandidge does not have a timetable on making his decision.
  13. Gamecocks DL target Rick Sandidge updates his recruitment August 04, 2017 Concord star has strong relationship with USC coaches Rick Sandidge has two schools that will stay near the top of his list CONCORD, N.C. - Concord High defensive tackle Rick Sandidge is not ready to release his top seven schools, but when he does he knows two schools that will make the cut and other cuts in the future until he makes his commitment. “UNC and South Carolina. Those are the ones that are always going to be in there regardless,” Sandidge said. “They recruited me early and kept on recruiting me.” Sandidge is one of the top remaining targets on South Carolina’s board. He is rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 134 overall player in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. At 6-foot-5 and 288 pounds, Sandidge has the size to contribute right away at USC. He visited Columbia within the past month and enjoyed the trip. “They’re recruiting me hard and saying that they need me. They’ve told me that I would be a major key,” Sandidge said. “They said if I was to commit they would get other players to commit just because I’m going there.” Sandidge hears often from Will Muschamp, Bobby Bentley and Lance Thompson and has a good relationship with all three of the USC coaches. In particular he was impressed by how much Muschamp was around on his most recent visit to campus. “Coach Muschamp, I saw him more than 10 times while I was there,” he said. “Coach Bentley is my recruiter in my area, Coach Muschamp because he stays in contact, Coach Thompson because he’s my position coach and he’s been talking to me, too.” Some believe South Carolina is the favorite to land Sandidge right now. Sandidge did not confirm that but did say he likes USC. “They’re not doing nothing wrong. They’re just recruiting me hard. It’s something I like, to be honest,” he said. “But it wouldn’t change my thoughts on another school though because I will still give them the opportunity.” Sandidge is planning to take official visits to Louisville and Penn State during the season. He does not plan to use an official visit for North Carolina because it is close to home. He is unsure if South Carolina will get an official visit because it is also close to home. Sandidge admitted that he is growing tired of the recruiting process but said he is not close to making a decision yet. “Whenever I go on a college visit, all of the schools are going to have good academics, all of the schools are going to have a great tradition at the school, all of the schools are going to say like, ‘Hey, we need you,’ ” he said. “I’m hearing the same message about academics, about being number one in something. I’m just trying to get a feel with the coaches and the players and the trainers because that’s the people I’m going to be spending my three to four years there with.
  14. DL Rick Sandidge remains deliberate with the process JULY 26, 2017 BY PHIL KORNBLUT Link: sportstalk Rick Sandidge DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC spent Friday and Saturday at USC with his mother and said he thoroughly enjoyed his time there once again. The Gamecocks will be in his top seven when he gets around to announcing that soon. He no doubt would make his mother, a USC grad, very happy by picking the Gamecocks but he said she’s not pressuring him and he’s under no pressure to make a quick decision. So, his recruiting will continue deep into the season, if not beyond. Sandidge was involved in all the social aspects of Saturday’s event but there was time set aside for recruiting talk with Will Muschamp and Lance Thompson. He said he saw Muschamp at least 10 times during the visit and he repeated the message he has made clear to him from the start. “We really need you and want you here and stuff like that,” Sandidge said. “At one point it felt too good to be true. They made me feel like I was like the number one prospect that they needed.” That being said, Sandidge is nowhere ready to make a final decision and he has a plan in place for the rest of his recruiting experience. “Take some more visits, use my officials, hit some games during the season, more than I did last year,” he said. “I only went to three games last year so I’m trying to pick it up more since it is my senior year.” He is planning to visit North Carolina unofficially for the Louisville game and he wants to save his official visits for out of state trips. Sandidge’s mother is very active on social media when it comes to expressing her fondness for her alma mater. Sandidge sees that and knows that people think his mother is pushing him that way, but he insists that’s not the case. “My mother doesn’t do that at all,” Sandidge said. “She might be bias about them because she went there but she still understands that that’s my decision and she knows that she’s not going to be there, I’m going to be there. She can understand that. She also wants to see the games and it kind of affects my family on seeing the games like if I wanted to go to Michigan or something like that or if I wanted to go to Florida State or the Florida Gators, that might affect her a little bit. Other than that, it’s really my decision and it doesn’t affect it all. I’m really neutral with all the schools, I feel the same about all of them really.”
  15. DL Rick Sandidge looks back at UGA, ahead to USC JULY 18, 2017 BY PHIL KORNBLUT Link: sportstalk Rick Sandidge DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC will make his first visit to USC since last football season this weekend. Sandidge, his parents and younger brother will be in Friday to watch camp and will stay over thru Saturday. Sandidge has ties to USC thru his mother who is a graduate, and the Gamecocks have made him a high priority for this recruiting class. He has USC in his top 11 along with North Carolina, Ohio State, NC State, LSU, Virginia Tech, Michigan, Florida State, Florida, Georgia and Miami. Sandidge is coming off a visit last weekend to Georgia and the Bulldogs gave him plenty to think about. “I had a good time and got to know the players and the coaches more,” he said. “I have a real good relationship with the coaches, especially with the defensive line coach. He’s the coach I’ve known the longest in my recruiting because he used to coach at North Carolina and UNC was the first school to offer me.” Sandidge said he remains in regular contact with Will Muschamp and Bobby Bentley from USC hearing from them every day. “They are just keeping me updated and stuff like that,” Sandidge said. “They’ve been talking about some the players they have had come thru.” Sandidge also has visited Ohio State and Michigan this summer. He’s not sure when he’ll make his decision.

  17. People, not brick and mortar, important to DL Rick Sandidge MAY 19, 2017 BY PHIL KORNBLUT Link: sportstalk Rick Sandidge DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC has been squarely on USC’s radar for months and the Gamecocks are firmly on his short list with North Carolina, NC State, Ohio State, LSU, Virginia Tech, Michigan, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Miami. He last visited USC for a game last season and the Gamecocks made him feel very comfortable. Sandidge realizes all the schools recruiting him have beautiful facilities so it’s the people connection that will make the difference with him. “All the new facilities getting done really don’t matter to me,” Sandidge said. “I worry about the coaches to be honest. That’s the people I’m going to be there for the next three to four years. I guess they like my size (273 pounds). I know I’m not fully developed and I’m not nowhere near that.” USC coach Will Muschamp and defensive line coach Lance Thompson have made Sandidge one of their priorities for this class. They have kept up the contact with him over the months and the work has paid off with a spot on his short list. “They just treat you like family when you go down there and I always have fun time no matter how many times I go down there,” Sandidge said. Sandidge has visited Miami, Florida, Florida State and Georgia this spring. He plans to visit LSU, Michigan, Ohio State and possibly Michigan State this summer. He’s not sure when he’ll return to USC.
  18. USC still on DL Rick Sandidge but he’s looking around MARCH 27, 2017 BY PHIL KORNBLUT Link: sportstalk Rick Sandidge USC was one of the early offers for DL Rick Sandidge of Concord, NC and he visited for a game last season. Sandidge has had the Gamecocks high up on his list and the two continue to communicate regularly. He’s not been to USC this spring and doesn’t plan to because he wants to see schools he hasn’t seen like the Florida schools, LSU and Georgia. He’s going down to Florida during his spring break in April. LSU is the latest offer for Sandidge. He does not have a favorites list yet but he plans to put one together in the spring. USC will be in that group as he continues to hear positive things from recruiter Bobby Bentley. “He’s just making sure I’m OK and that I’m always invited to come to their school and they really want me to come there to get a free education and play football at the University of South Carolina,” Sandidge said. “They think that I can be a very important key to their defensive line.” Sandidge said he will not be graduating early and he does not have a timetable on a decision. Some of his other offers include North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, Penn State, Florida State, Florida, West Virginia and NC State.
  19. 2018 DL Sandidge big on USC after visit SEPTEMBER 19, 2016 BY PHIL KORNBLUT Link: sportstalk Rick Sandidge One of the young prospects to visit USC Saturday was 2018 DL Rick Sandidge (6-5 273) of Concord, NC. He’s a teammate of Gamecock 2017 commitment DB Hamsah Nasirildeen and he’s thinking strongly about joining him in Columbia one day. He also likes North Carolina a great deal at the moment. Sandidge said he and some of his teammates arrived at Williams-Brice Stadium about two hours before kickoff, met up with the coaches and then settled in to watch the game. “The thing I liked about the game was the fans,” Sandidge said. “It was like a rival game, and it wasn’t that much of a rival. I was talking to my friends like, dang, I wonder how it’s going to be when Clemson comes down here or they play Tennessee or something like that.” Sandidge said he was impressed by the play of defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth and said he plays in a similar fashion. Bobby Bentley is recruiting Sandidge for USC and he’s gotten a good vibe from him and the rest of the staff for his interactions. “They treat me and my family like family,” he said. “It’s an amazing atmosphere.” Sandidge said no one else stands out to him besides USC and North Carolina but he expects to add to that list as he takes more visits. Among his other offers are Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Alabama, Michigan, East Carolina, Duke, Penn State, Florida State, NC State, Louisville, Florida and West Virginia. He plans to take visits to Virginia Tech, Florida State, North Carolina and Ohio State in future weeks. He’d like to make his decision next spring around the end of his junior year in high school.
