  18. South Carolina spring game: Info for watching game on TV or in person March 31, 2017 South Carolina will bring spring football practice to a close on Saturday with the annual Garnet & Black Spring Game. With the men’s basketball team set to play in the Final Four later that night, kickoff time for the spring game was bumped up to Noon ET. Fans who are unable to make the game at Williams-Brice Stadium can catch it on SEC Network. Play-by-play man Taylor Zarzour has the call with Greg McElroy serving as the color commentator and Peter Burns as the sideline reporter. It will also be available on 107.5 The Game, the flagship radio station of Gamecock Athletics. Admission to the game is free. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. and the clear bag policy will be enforced. Parking will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Key Road lot is set to open at 8 a.m. and is free to the public. The Fairgrounds lots and Gamecock Park also open at 8, though spots in those lots are available for $10 per vehicle. With the construction project still going on along Bluff Road, reduced lanes are in effect from National Guard Road to Rosewood. Fairgrounds Gate 10 off Bluff Road will not be opened.
  19. South Carolina moves 2017 spring game to accommodate Final Four game March 27, 2017 Early spring is usually the time of year South Carolina fans are already looking ahead to football season. That’s not the case in 2017. With the Gamecocks earning a Final Four appearance in the Men’s NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Columbia, SC is coming down with basketball fever. And to help accommodate the Final Four game Saturday, the football team is starting its spring game two hours earlier than initially planned. Originally set to start at 2 p.m. ET, SEC Network will now air the spring game at 12. Another schedule change for the university includes South Carolina postponing its plans to break ground on an indoor football facility on Saturday. It has to feel great for every member of the basketball team that the school is supporting them so much, they are rescheduling major football events. It’s likely usually the other way around in the football town. South Carolina edged Florida, 77-70, in the Elite 8 at Madison Square Garden on Sunday to advance to the program’s first-ever Final Four. The Gamecocks will face the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the National Semifinals on Saturday at 6:09 p.m. ET. Maybe now that the team has proven capable of reaching the Final Four, perhaps in the future, the South Carolina football team won’t plan as many things the same weekend as the final one of the tournament.
  20. South Carolina spring game to be televised on April 1 Feb. 14, 2017 South Carolina will be the first SEC spring game this season. On Tuesday, the SEC announced the annual Garnet and Black game will be the first SEC spring game to air. It will take place at 2 p.m. on April 1 and will be televised on SEC Network. South Carolina opens spring practice on Feb. 25, with four practices set to take place before spring break. Last week, Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp said he has been pleased with the steps taken by his team through the early portion of the offseason. “I’ve been very pleased so far with the offseason program and how it has gone,” Muschamp said. “We need to get stronger as a team. The month of January, we lifted four days a week and really grinded the guys to improve and get stronger. I think we made some strides. Now, we are going to do a three-day lift a week and a lot of our guys are coming in on Saturday morning and we are not requiring them too. On a weekend in January, we had between 25-30 guys come in on Saturday morning. “The culture of the program is changing as far as what it takes to have a good football program.” http://www.secsports.com/article/18681589/all-sec-spring-football-games-televised
  21. SOUTH CAROLINA FOOTBALL PRESS CONFERENCE Sunday, December 4, 2016 • Williams-Brice Stadium Note: Stream will begin at approximately 5:45 p.m. Press conference starts at 6 p.m.
  22. South Carolina-Clemson game time announced Nov. 20, 2016 The kickoff time for next Saturday’s South Carolina-Clemson game has been announced. The Gamecocks and Tigers renew their rivalry in Death Valley at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. South Carolina lost 37-32 to Clemson last season in The Palmetto Bowl. Clemson holds the all-time series with a record of 67–42–4. South Carolina (6-5, 3-5 SEC) is coming off a win over Western Carolina, which made the Gamecocks bowl eligible. The 10-1 Tigers are coming off a 35-13 win over Wake Forest. Game information Saturday, Nov. 26
  23. When you took a look at South Carolina’s 2016 football schedule, you probably didn’t have Saturday’s home game with Missouri circled as a “big game” for the Gamecocks. Granted, the winner of this game annually gets a trophy (both schools are located in cities called Columbia, thus Battle of Columbia Trophy), but these Tigers and Carolina don’t have a lot of history together to give it the sizzle. The Gamecocks have reversed their fortunes after a 2-4 start with two consecutive wins for the first time since 2014. True freshman quarterback Jake Bentley, redshirt sophomore wide receiver Deebo Samuel and true freshman running back Rico Dowdle have let a resurgence on offense and Carolina has defeated UMass and Tennessee in consecutive weeks. The latter, against the then-No. 18 team in the country and the preseason SEC East favorite, was the biggest win of Will Muschamp’s inaugural season in Columbia, S.C. But those good feelings will end quickly should the Gamecocks lose to Missouri for a third straight year on Saturday. This game, against a 2-6 team from the other Columbia, is as big as it gets because of what it means for the overall product this season. A South Carolina victory means that the Gamecocks are a Nov. 19 win against Western Carolina (the Catamounts currently are 1-7 overall and 0-6 in the Southern Conference) from getting bowl-eligible in Muschamp’s first season. ?During the height of the Steve Spurrier era, a trip to Birmingham, Shreveport or Charlotte during the holidays may have been something fans scoffed at because it usually meant a disappointing season. This year, it would mean big progress right out of the gate for a first-year staff playing a ton of true freshmen with holes all over the roster. It would definitely be something to build on for this program. There’s always talk about standards within a football program and Spurrier, and to a lesser extent Lou Holtz before him, changed those standards. Since 2000, South Carolina has had only three losing seasons (2002, 2003 and 2015) and has only missed a bowl game five times (2002, 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2015). The Gamecocks have been to 20 bowl games all-time and 11 of those have come since the turn of the century. That means that most seasons, South Carolina wins enough games to get to the postseason and missing it last season was abnormal for this program. Saturday’s game is an opportunity to reverse that quite quickly and is an invaluable springboard for the Gamecocks’ first-year staff. It’s hard to say what will happen, though. Certainly, South Carolina is favored, but this is a team that hasn’t been favored by this margin all season and has only been a lined favorite twice (the other was a 3-point spread against East Carolina and the Gamecocks won, 20-15). Given the youth and inexperience on both sides of the ball, the big question becomes how they handle it. Missouri has struggled but any team with the speed that the Tigers have, Drew Lock at quarterback, midseason All-American Aarion Penton at cornerback and Charles Harris at defensive end is good enough to win the football game. So given the chance to return to standard this year and an opponent that is capable of coming to Williams-Brice and springing the upset, this game is as big as it gets for South Carolina.
  24. If you purchased a Galaxy Note 7 from a US carrier or retailer, you can (and should) return it to a store immediately. If you bought the phone straight from Samsung, though, the process was a little trickier -- some customers complained early on about FedEx and UPS refusing to handle return units out of fears they would blow up. That's why Samsung has adopted an elaborate recall box that allows affected phones to be returned to the company via UPS Ground. It's... sort of a doozy. The folks at XDA have received that new return packaging, and very quickly you get a sense of how big a headache this must be for Samsung. After powering off the affected phone, you'll have to stick it in an anti-static bag, which goes in a cardboard box, which goes in another cardboard box, which goes in one last thermally insulated box lined with ceramic fiber meant to help to keep potential fires under control. Oh, and since there's a chance that ceramic fiber could irritate skin, there's a pair of blue latex gloves in there for good measure. According to Twitter, Samsung started using these more durable boxes in late September, just in time to accommodate people freaking out over multiple reports of burning replacement phones. (We've reached out to UPS and FedEx for comment on all of this, and we'll update this story this if they have anything interesting to add.) And another thing: how much must these things cost? Samsung and CPSC have worked to try and recall around 1 million Note 7s in the US, and whipping together specialized packaging for even a fraction of those devices must've set Samsung back quite a bit. Financially, things are starting to get pretty hairy -- early analyst guesses pegged the cost of the company's recall at about $1 billion, and it's estimated that by completely stopping Note 7 sales, Samsung may have lost out on nearly $17 billion in revenue. Then again, the chaebol makes most of its money from other avenues, so don't expect Samsung to up and disappear any time soon.
  25. South Carolina-Georgia moved to Sunday Oct. 06, 2016 COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina’s game against Georgia still will be played in Williams-Brice Stadium, but it won’t be played Saturday night. The Gamecocks and Bulldogs will play on Sunday, coach Will Muschamp said on his Thursday radio show. The game time has not been set yet with hopes it will be determined later Thursday night. “We are working with the University of Georgia and the Southeastern Conference, the SEC Network for a kick time,” Muschamp said. “It will be definitely Sunday, sometime in the afternoon. They are not sure exactly what the kick time will be.” Muschamp praised the USC administration for its work in the process. “I want compliment president (Harris) Pastides, coach (Ray) Tanner and his entire staff,” Muschamp said. “They have been together all week figuring out, No. 1 campus wise what do we need to do in helping out the College of Charleston and some of the people on the coast coming to Columbia trying to help them out. “They have worked extremely hard on this situation to make it a workable situation for all the parties involved.” The game originally was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday night, but was moved because of Hurricane Matthew. The Gamecocks were determined to keep the game in Columbia, stating Wednesday night that “the USC vs. UGA game will be played in Columbia.” The Gamecocks have won three straight meetings with Georgia at Williams-Brice Stadium.
