GCF Players of the Game vs. Eastern Illinois’

Sept. 06, 2022 / HF

It's unlikely that many South Carolina football fans had RB ZaQuandre White leading the team in receiving and rushing yards on their 2021 season opener. Yet with Kevin Harris out due to an illness, White did just that. White finished the game with 172 total yards and two total touchdowns in the Gamecocks' 46-0 rout of the Eastern Illinois Panthers. White said. "As a team, we've been grinding for each day for six to seven months". Do it felt good going out there and executing." On defense was a team effort, but I have to pick one. The pick 6 DE Jordan Burch.

Offensive player of the game: ZaQuandre White

It's unlikely that many Gamecock football fans had ZaQuandre White leading the team in receiving and rushing yards on their 2021 season opener bingo card. With RB Kevin Harrison on the sidelines to an illness, White did just that. White picked up 128 rushing yards on 12 attempts and 39 receiving yards on four receptions, picking up a touchdown as well in each category, and had a gem of a run, which was a 63-yard run at the beginning of the fourth quarter where he basically blew by the whole Panther defense in seconds. The Gamecocks' 46-0 rout of the Eastern Illinois Panthers. White said.  "As a team, we've been grinding for each day for six to seven months, Do it felt good going out there and executing."  Yes, it did!  Few more top performers on the offensive were QB Zeb Noland, RB MarShawn Lloyd, and TE Nick Muse.

Defensive player of the Game: DE Jordan Burch

Finally the star DE shines in his short college career. It’s no secret he hasn’t necessarily had the start to his career that he and the Gamecock fans wanted to see, so it was great to see him get some time out there today and make the most of it.

DE Jordan Burch didn’t have a great night vs. Eastern Illinois’ the stat sheet was shore here, one tackle all game, but he did have a very big rumble down the field that light up the whole stadium providing the nail in the coffin with his 61-yard pick-six in the middle of the fourth quarter. The big man can move, just to see that impressive run into the end zone was enough for me to make him defensive player of the game. As for now, he provided the Gamecock faithful with at least some hope that he’ll live up to his five-star status. Other stars on defense? Well kudos to the whole defense for their first shut out since 2008 NC State 34-0
