South Carolina where will they go bowling?

South Carolina where will they go bowling?

November 18, 2018

South Carolina is now bowl eligible at 6-5 with only Clemson & Akron left to play, at the least, the Gamecock should finish the regular season at 7-5. At this point, most projections do not believe that the Southeastern Conference will have enough teams qualify for the postseason to fill all of its bowl spots. And that could be good news for the fans who don’t want to make a trip to Birmingham, Ala. for the second time in three years.

The Gamecocks still have few games remaining. Best case now is 7-5 with a very small possibility for 8 win campaign??????? Will need a big upset win over Clemson to reach the 8 win plateau for regular season.

South Carolina has made it to a bowl game every season since 2008 except for one. The Gamecocks missed the postseason in 2015, the year that Spurrier stepped down and interim head coach Shawn Elliott took over. The team is 5-4 in bowl games during that time, which includes a 1-1 mark under coach Will Muschamp.

Muschamp led the Gamecocks to the Birmingham Bowl in his first season at the helm of the program but lost to USF 46-39 in overtime. Last season, the Gamecocks brought down Michigan in the Outback Bowl.

Below is a list of several bowl option for the 2018 Gamecocks

ACADEMY SPORTS + OUTDOOR TEXAS BOWL - DEC. 27, 9 P.M. ESPN

South Carolina has never played in the Academy Sports + Outdoor Texas Bowl in program history. In fact, the program has never played a bowl game in the state of Texas. Should this matchup come to fruition, it would also be the first time in program history that South Carolina has played Texas Tech in football.

 Texas Bowl vs. Texas Tech

FRANKLIN AMERICAN MORTGAGE MUSIC CITY BOWL - DEC. 28, 1:30 P.M. ESPN

South Carolina has already made one trip to Nashville, Tenn. this season, the site of the Music City Bowl, and beat Vanderbilt earlier this season. The Gamecocks have never played in the Music City Bowl before, but do have a history with N.C. State, including last year’s season-opening victory against the Wolfpack.

Stadium: Brett McMurphy - N.C. State

BELK BOWL - DEC. 29, NOON ABC

South Carolina has never played in the Belk Bowl, but there is, certainly, a tradition of playing games in Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium. The Gamecocks were there last year to take on N.C. State and will be back next year to battle North Carolina.

Belk Bowl vs. Duke or Virginia

AUTOZONE LIBERTY BOWL - DEC. 31, 3:45 P.M., ESPN

The AutoZone Liberty Bowl has three projections with South Carolina visiting Memphis, Tenn. The Gamecocks are 1-1 there all-time with the last visit being a shootout win over Houston in 2006. The team also lost in 1988 to Indiana by a 24-point margin.

Liberty Bowl vs. Baylor or Oklahoma State

OTHER OPTIONS?

The two lowest-ranked bowls that have tie-ins to the Southeastern Conference are the Walk-On’s Liberty Bowl and the Birmingham Bowl. Looks like the SEC Does not have enough SEC schools to fill the Birmingham or Liberty Bowl. TaxSlayer Gator Bowl in Jacksonville has not been ruled out but doubtful at this point. Their only chance for a Florida destination.
