Carolina  Hosts Charlotte Tuesday Night at Founders Park

The Gamecocks and 49ers square off Tuesday at 7 p.m.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The University of South Carolina baseball team returns to Founders Park for the first time in April as the Gamecocks host Charlotte Tuesday night (April 9) at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed on SEC Network + with Burch Antley and Michael Roth on the call. All games will be broadcast on The Game 107.5 FM and the Gamecock Sports Network with Derek Scott and Tommy Moody on the call. Carolina won 1-of-3 games at Alabama this past weekend, taking the series finale, 5-4, in 12 innings. Brett Kerry pitched 5.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win while TJ Hopkins scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the 12th.

PARKING INFORMATION

> For the third straight season, shuttle parking for the University of South Carolina baseball season will be operational at the Key Road Gravel Lot (1105 Key Road) and in Lot B of the Colonial Life Arena parking lot. Shuttles will begin running two hours prior to game time.

We strongly recommend that fans use the baseball shuttle from Key Road to Founders Park over the CLA shuttle for the convenience, spacious parking (650 spaces) and less congestion than at the arena. Please remember that at the arena, shuttle parking will be limited to 50 spaces because of the student demand for parking in this area. There is a high student demand Monday through Thursday that lasts until 7 p.m. because of classes.

For GPS purposes, the address for the Key Road Gravel Lot is 1105 Key Road, Columbia, SC 29201.

THE SERIES

Carolina is 24-8 against Charlotte in the all-time season series. The two teams have played just once since 2008 as the Gamecocks defeated the 49ers, 5-4, on Feb. 21, 2017. Alex Destino and Jacob Olson each homered for Carolina in the win while Tyler Johnson struck out a pair to earn the save.

KERRY THROWS UP ZEROES IN WIN OVER ALABAMA

Freshman Brett Kerry was instrumental in helping the Gamecocks pick up the 5-4, 12-inning win over Alabama on Saturday (April 6) as he pitched the final 5.2 innings, allowing just two hits and no runs while striking out four. Kerry retired the final seven batters to the plate and picked up crucial outs with runners in scoring position in both the ninth and 10th frames. On the year, Kerry is 3-1 with a 1.69 ERA, three saves and 41 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched.

EIGHT GAMECOCKS DOT MLB OPENING DAY ROSTERS

South Carolina had eight players on Major League Baseball rosters on Opening Day (March 28), including Jackie Bradley Jr., who earned a World Series ring with the Boston Red Sox and was named the 2018 ALCS Most Valuable Player. Whit Merrifield (Kansas City), Justin Smoak (Toronto), Sam Dyson (San Francisco), Grayson Greiner (Detroit) and Christian Walker (Arizona) all are on active rosters while Steve Pearce (Boston), who was the 2018 World Series MVP, and Jordan Montgomery (New York Yankees) will start the 2019 season on the disabled list. Tyler Webb (St. Louis) is on the Cardinals' 40-man roster heading into the new campaign. The SEC has 85 former players on Opening Day rosters.
