Someone broke into the royal crib over this past weekend while I was visiting what's left of the royal family.

They took some money that was setting on my bedroom dresser and one of my Stratocaster lutes. It was one of the cheaper Squire knock-off models, but still worth a lot of money.

They forced their way into the side door of my garage and broke the left latch on my storage building door lock, but didn't take anything from the building.

I am currently in consultation with Prince Harry of the royal kingdom as to what my next step is.

I'm sorry that happened to you, man. Do you have any idea who it might have been?

Were the police any help?

It took a few days, but the local sheriff's department assigned an investigator to my case.

Someone knew you weren't home.

There was a crew putting a roof on the house across the street from me, but the investigator has an idea who it might have been because apparently a bike was stolen in the next neighborhood. The roofing crew saw me leave in the same car every day. Monday the crew was gone and so was my guitar.

I guess the guitar was worth about $800 or so, but it's the fact that some m/f was IN MY HOUSE that really bothers me. The investigator didn't find any fingerprints, so he was most likely wearing gloves.

I am a bachelor dude, so I don't really dust the house like I should. It's creepy seeing the thief's glove marks on the subwoofer that he didn't steal.

The investigator felt he was also on foot by himself because he only took the change on my dresser and the guitar. No TVs, stereo receivers, or the boatload of tools I have in my garage. Nothing out of the storage building in my backyard where I keep the push mower and the weed-eater, either.

Today I am changing the lock and installing a deadbolt on the door he got into. It was the side door to the garage and it had one of those latches you can defeat with a credit card or a flat-head screwdriver. The other doors are good.

Thief is not likely to be back since you didn't have much he wanted. Which means you likely have no chance of shooting him. :(

Someone came into my house yrs ago in Hanahan. I left the door unlocked for someone coming a little later. The intruder came in while I was asleep. Quick grabbed a few things they could resell.

The next few nights I was patrolling the neighborhood with my 1100 shotgun. Even since, I keep something loaded nearby and vow to shoot them.

I spent most of this past Saturday afternoon installing a deadbolt lock on the door they used. It took longer than I thought it would, but it looks like a professional installed it.

Judging from the fresh marks I noticed late Sunday afternoon on the door frame even with the new deadbolt I installed, the thief came back Sunday afternoon while I was grabbing a very late lunch at a local restaurant I frequent on a regular basis and tried to defeat the deadbolt with a tool similar to the one he used on the lower latch the first time.

Since the initial break-in I am in the habit of checking that door to see if it's unlocked several times a day. It was locked in the morning when I went to grab some breakfast, but it was unlocked later that afternoon. I just flopped around the house Sunday to rest up from the work I did to install the deadbolt on Saturday, so I never used the door before then and made sure it was locked late Saturday afternoon when I was finished and again Sunday morning.

So the inbred jackass came back to steal more of my stuff while I was eating in the dining room of a local restaurant.

Someone knew you weren't home.

The thief could either be arrogant, desperate or both to be stupid enough to come back a second time. Someone could also be using GPS to track my cell phone like we have talked about in the Ukraine thread. I think someone smart enough to do that would also be smart enough not to have to resort to crime to make a living, but I don't know.

I went riding around the car afterwards just to enjoy the cool car A/C and to kill some time, so there was about a 2-hour window of opportunity.

I have gone from being terrified to the point where the old military coping mechanisms are kicking in and I am establishing a perimeter to defend myself. The good news is the deadbolt worked. The dumbass will have to break window glass to get into my house the next time.

God help the m/f who tries to penetrate the Nerf castle while his majesty is inside.

Might be time to install some cameras.

Might be time to install some cameras.
That's probably next. My biggest priority up to this point has been preventing the intruder from getting into my house again.

I discovered the latch on my metal storage building that he broke is made out of plastic instead of steel. That explains why it broke off instead of just bending.

I ordered this latch kit from Wayfair. It's steel and came today.

Some type of camera set-up is next after that, but I have spent a lot of money getting the physical security stuff in a very short time and I still have to stick to my budget at a certain point.

I am going to research camera solutions after I get the latch kit for the building installed. Some good ideas from you guys.
