  8. Congrats to the Thompson family A year and a half ago, former South Carolina quarterback Dylan Thompson shared a story of personal tragedy when he and his wife Melanie lost an unborn child. 9. Muschamp's first weekly radio show injury report looks good among other topics August 22, 2019 Gamecocks’ head coach only mentioned three injured players on his first weekly radio show of the season. Muschamp had this to say on the injury front: 1 - J.T. we’re still working through the pec injury, He won’t practice this weekend, but I expect to get him back next week. It’s an injury he had at Rice. We’re working through that. 2 - Randrecous Davis had a little bit of an ankle. I think he’s going to fine. 3 - Keir Thomas is still working through some things with his ankle. Other than that we’re good to go.” More Muschamp news: Muschamp clarified something he said earlier about No. 3 quarterback Dakereon Joyner. He directly said Joyner has agreed to try to help the team in some non-quarterback roles this season, though he will still primarily be a passer. There’s nothing final with this. Shi Smith will be the second starter at kick returner with A.J. Turner. Bryan Edwards remains the top punt returner, backed up by Smith, and Josh Vann could be an option as well. Muschamp described punter Joseph Charlton as ‘killing it’ in camp Announced true freshman linebacker Jahmar Brown will play this season, dispelling any question if he’d redshirt. He was mentioned as a strongside linebacker. Muschamp said linebacker Ernest Jones, who broke into the starting lineup, took the biggest step forward in camp. Eric Douglas was the second name he mentioned there. Muschamp also ran through his offensive line, detailing where things are right now. He did not delve into who was leading the battle at right guard, where top utility lineman Eric Douglas is battling Jovaughn Gwyn, but later came back and said Douglas was part of the group of the top five linemen. LT -Sadarius Hutcherson (Jakai Moore) LG - Donell Stanley (Jordan Rhodes) C - Hank Manos (Donell Stanley, Vincent Murphy) RG - Eric Douglas (OR Jovaughn Gwyn) RT - Dylan Wonnum (Douglas)

  13. What the Gamecock coordinators are saying about North Carolina August 22, 2019 When the Gamecocks took the practice field Thursday, they were doing something they haven't done all preseason: preparing for an opponent. Fall camp is over and the Gamecocks began preparations for North Carolina Thursday, which will continue over the next nine days before kick off on Aug. 31. While players are just starting to learn the game plan, the coaching staff has been working on theirs for the last few weeks and putting together a plan to stop the Tar heels and true freshman starting quarterback Sam Howell. 15. DL Zacch Pickens is he game ready? August 22, 2019 Travaris Robinson raves about the “tremendous depth” the Gamecocks have this season on the defensive side, the highest-rated recruit under Muschamp has flown relatively under the radar through training camp. That is freshman defensive lineman Zacch Pickens, he entered camp absent from USC’s first depth chart, competing against six or seven more experienced players for a spot. (VIEW ARTICLE)
  16. But Robinson, the defensive coordinator, said that he has noticed a difference in Pickens from the spring when he battled injuries and had a so so Garnet and Black Game. Robinson said. "he is “more confident". That’s the most important thing. It’s hard to play defensive line as a freshman. Those guys are big, he’s always been bigger than everybody, so the technique wasn’t very important. But now he’s realizing that he can’t just overpower people. He’s gotta play with leverage, play with technique, he’s gotta work on that stuff,”. “You know how it is, it’s just the different things of him understanding what’s demanded of him. The effort, getting to the ball, pad level, stuff like that, and he’s doing a great job.” Defensive line coach John Scott Jr. has also noticed Pickens’ improvement in the mental side of the game from the spring. Where there has never been any question is Pickens’ physical readiness. At 6-foot-3, 300 pounds, he had the speed to play some running back in high school, and Scott noted earlier in the camp that he already has the body of a junior. That alone would make Pickens a threat to play right away, but Robinson said he is now “turning the corner” in his overall development and will be “a really good player for us.” That being said, he’s still a freshman, and rotations, where he’s paired with a veteran, have produced better on-field results in camp, Robinson said.“It helps when he’s got (senior Kobe Smith) next to him and he got (senior Javon Kinlaw), Robinson said. “He plays a lot better than when he got (redshirt freshman Tyreek Johnson) and all of them young guys next to him, and both of them looking at each other and don’t know what to tell each other. “We just gotta continue to work. Our guys got the right mindset right now and we feel really good with where they are.” So does that mean Gamecock fans can expect to see him Aug. 31 against North Carolina? In closing, Robinson said “Oh yeah, I imagine he’ll have a good opportunity to play,”
  17. I like hearing this from you. I know you don't get up or down too much, and when you start getting excited, there is good reason for it, usually! These next 9 days can't go by quickly enough for me.
  18. Dang, I was hoping he would mention me. I have all 4 years of my eligibility still available.
  19. Just in time for the start of the South Carolina football season, The State newspaper is starting a new podcast: The GoGamecocks Podcast. 22. Will Muschamp talks starters and other notes August 22, 2019 Coach Muschamp talks one potential true freshman starter and hinted at another lineup choice as he spoke at the Columbia Touchdown Club on Today. Below is what he said: ▪ He expects true freshman Jammie Robinson will start at the nickel spot. Robinson has drawn strong reviews all camp after enrolling for the summer. ▪ Second-year linebacker Ernest Jones will start in the middle, with T.J Burnson moving to the weakside spot. ▪ Will Muschamp: said "Dakereon is still playing quarterback. He'll also help our team in other positions. He has handled everything in a first-class manner." ▪ Although he didn’t get specific, Muschamp said Bryan Edwards, Shi Smith, and Josh Vann had separated themselves as far as the wide receiver spot. Smith and Edwards had been returning starters, while OrTre Smith spent much of the offseason projected as the third guy after starting 10 games in 2017. Before the meeting, Muschamp had news to talk about. He said the tight end position has been stabilized despite the loss of Kiel Pollard. They expect Evan Hinson back soon after surgery, and Kyle Markway has shown well. Freshman KeShawn Toney drew praise, as did former offensive lineman Chandler Ferrell, who moved over this spring.
