What Kyle Krantz adds to South Carolina football staff

January 12, 2018

South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp tapped longtime staffer Kyle Krantz to fill the Gamecocks’ 10th assistant coach spot.

Krantz, a graduate of Northern Colorado, will coach strongside linebackers and nickel backs and work as a special teams assistant to coordinator Coleman Hutzler.

Krantz began his career as a student assistant at North Carolina before taking over as linebackers coach at Northern Colorado (2009, 2010).

During the summer of 2011, he worked as an offensive quality control volunteer at Northwestern prior to landing a graduate assistant role at Kentucky before the start of that season.

Krantz landed at Florida in 2013, where he worked with wide receivers and defensive backs. Krantz followed Muschamp to Auburn in 2015, where he worked as a defensive analyst.

Muschamp hired Krantz again as a defensive analyst after he arrived in Columbia in December 2015.

“As far as work ethic is concerned, a coordinator’s mentality,” Muschamp said. “He’s a grinder, a worker. He thinks like we think, is the best thing I can say. … I really felt like we needed more help on special teams and, obviously, he understands our scheme and system.”

Muschamp added, “He’s a really good [talent] evaluator. He’s going to work extremely hard for us.”
