South Carolina names Kyle Krantz as 10th assistant coach

January 12, 2018

In addition to getting new contracts for the staff and Will Muschamp, South Carolina announced the addition of a new coach. The school announced Kyle Krantz had been promoted as the school’s 10th assistant.

Krantz had spent the past two seasons at South Carolina as a defensive analyst, and before that had worked with coach Will Muschamp at both Auburn and Florida.

While his role has not yet been defined, the school announced that Krantz will make $125,000 for this coming season.

Muschamp received a 3-year extension as well as a raise in salary from $3.1 million for the 2017 season to $4.2 million for the 2018 season. That is less than Dan Mullen, who will reportedly make $6 million a year at Florida, but that is more than Georgia coach Kirby Smart made this past season. Smart is also likely to receive a raise given Georgia’s success.

South Carolina figures to begin next season ranked in the AP Top 25, as it brings back a wealth of talent, especially on offense. In addition to quarterback Jake Bentley and running back Rico Dowdle, star wide receiver Deebo Samuel will also return. Samuel missed a large portion of the 2017 season due to an injury.

The Gamecocks open the 2018 season Sept. 1, when they host Coastal Carolina. The Gamecocks then host Georgia in Week 2.
