PJ Dozier makes pitch to South Carolina basketball recruits

May 13, 2017

During the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, PJ Dozier gave his best sales pitch for South Carolina basketball coach Frank Martin.

The former Gamecock point guard offered the take of his old coach during an interview with SEC Country reporter Kyle Tucker.

“It’s all about believing in him,” Dozier said. “Just check the resume. Check the resume, statistics don’t lie. You check his resume, no matter where he went, he was successful.”

Dozier was a 5-star recruit out of Spring Valley High School (Columbia, S.C.) when Martin added him as a part of the 2015 South Carolina basketball signing class.

“He’s a great guy. Great guy off the court. Great guy on the court,” Dozier said. “When he sits down to talk to those (recruits), I definitely think they’ll feel the same way, the same way about him that I do. He’s a great father-figure and a better coach.”

Ten teams have met with Dozier during the combine, including Memphis, Philadelphia, New York, Milwaukee, Miami, Utah, Portland and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Former teammate Sindarius Thronwell, who’s also in Chicago this week, has met with from Milwaukee, Golden State, Detroit, Orlando, Denver, Brooklyn, San Antonio and Miami. In total, he’s seen representatives from 13 NBA organizations.

Thornwell believes a member of Dozier’s 2015 signing class is the next South Carolina basketball player for NBA brass to get to know.

“Chris Silva, I really believe he’ll have a good year next year and he’ll open a lot of people’s eyes next year,” Thornwell said.
