MBB roster gaps to fill next season

Gray has improved every year and I expect him to make some offensive improvements(FT%), Wright will improve his floor leadership and Stute needs to improve his handles and shooting off the drbble, these are vital
The improvements I hope to see will come from Conyers and Morris...
Well, it's a certainty that Gray will not show any improvement for the Gamecocks next year.

My perception is Lamont and his staff are finally filling a void in the talent development area that's been out there for quite a while in our MBB program, so I am optimistic regardless of who we get.

Except for PJ, I never really knew much about the guys Frank and his staff brought in here until the regular season played out. The difference is Lamont is bringing in known entities that he and his staff can coach-up to the necessary level of performance in an SEC schedule.

I already assume Lamont has set his sights on winning the SEC regular season championship next year and I believe we will be in the hunt come hell or high water.

Hate to see Gray leave, but it's not the end of the world. Best of luck to him for sure.

Yeah Coach Martin never brought in known players like Seventh Woods or AJ Lawson or Trea Hannibal or Jermaine Couisnard or Sin Thornwell or Justin Mckie or PJ Dozier or Duane Notice... He was not all over GG Jackson... He is not our coach anymore and he didn't take us to a Final Four or win the only NCAA Tourney game in my lifetime so let's belittle him and act like he accomplished nothing and this season was was better than anything the last coach ever did, like they never had talent or won anything... One of the players he brought and left when he left sent us home, put up 40 on us but we were void of talent...

Coach Paris is doing a great job and I hope he far and away exceeds Coach Martin's accomplishments!!! Getting Butler, Pringle and Scott should give us a great foundation to do just that with CMB, Stute, Wright and the freshmen coming in.... GO COCKS!

Frank's teams never sniffed an NCAAT bid after that and you need to that stuff go.

Ok, so what other coach has made it past the 1st Rd, I'll wait... You need to respect the 3rd winninest coach and the former Gamecocks that played for him, you can do that and still enjoy, pull, root and celebrate Coach Paris and his team's! You can also celebrate Coach Paris without belittling the Gamecocks of the past as if the Final Four run does not help Coach Paris! I can promise you Coach Paris would tell you the same thing as would Coach Staley!

I'm not here to bash Frank but lets face reality here. The final 4 run didn't help him any. In 10 seasons he went to the Big Dance once and while he had a wonderful run in that tournament a 10% record of making a 68 team tournament is unacceptable.

He was 3 - 6 against clemson (also unacceptable) and 20 games under .500 in conference play at 79 - 99. Let's not kid ourselves here about Frank's tenure.

Yeah, I mean Frank inherited a great program... He showed you could win here, he showed if the recruits stayed home... PLEASE STOP AS HE IS NOT THE COACH ANYMORE AND IT DOES NOTHING TO REHASH THIS!!!!! Move forward and concentrate on Coach Paris and the bright future!

Just saw he entered transfer portal, I hope we can land Pringle and Jordan Butler who both have ties to the state and would be great fits with Coach Paris

We got both Pringle and Butler, and got the commitment from MEACH Player of the Year PG Jamarii Thomas who played at Norfolk State. The Senior had initially committed to VCU but switched to South Carolina.....

Yeah I think we upgraded the roster, with Cam Scott, Pringle, Butler and Thomas

We will have without a doubt the longest most athletic team in my lifetime and could/should be one of the best defensive squads in the country

Thomas' two years at UNC-Wilmington carry some weight for me, too, since UNC-W has been a solid program the past several years.

I just hope he has enough confidence with his 3-pointers to make up for his lack of size driving to the rim. I wish we had more length in the backcourt, but Davis and Ugusuck are pretty good ball handlers, too.

Watching his highlight tape i like everything i see. The one concern i have is why is his 2pt% that low. I like that while being a capable dunker he has a floater in his repertoire so maybe theres room for growth there. 2.1 steals per game, he also was 2nd on his team in rebounding. His free throw rate seems insane for a guard, he got to the line 241 times last year. A confident scorer from all 3 levels while being a willing passer.

Not that theyre the same player but if youre an optimist about our system improving a guard's efficiency, Cooper went from 40.5% from 2 before he got here to 50%, and 37.8% from 3 to 45.9%. I dont know if reaching those numbers is realistic but if he comes anywhere close his impact will be huge.

We need Stute on defense, but his slow and indecisive passes caused a bunch of turnovers on offense last season. He threw the offense out of rhythm and we actually did better while he was out in some ways.

Our ace in the hole on offense was our bench performance last season, so I am not really worried about our offense too much. Our defense shouldn't drop off that much. I think it will actually improve some.

I really think Pringle will improve our rebounding numbers, too.

Davis and Ugusuck are decent ball handlers but had some TOs as well. Lamont had more success finding the right personnel combos as the season wore on, too.

And let's not forget Wright stepped up big when Ta'Lon and Meechie got in foul trouble. If Thomas struggles some, at least he will have good teammates around him.

Everyone just needs to get used to playing together, I guess. Lots of upside for next season.

"Closer to home" would mean UK I guess.

In the words of Steve Spurrier, "We'll look forward to playin' ya' then." LOL

There has to be another SEC big lookin' for some PT next year.

Cam Scott is 6'5, Stute is 6'6,
Trent Noah requested to be released from his national letter of intent and it was granted.
Just saw this, was looking forward to watching him in Garnet and Black... he is one of the better scorers in Kentucky high school basketball history
Maybe Coach Paris can get him back in the fold but sounds like Coach Pope is going to offer him at Ken

That would be hard for a native Kentucky kid to turn down if true.

It seems like the portal has created a different type of "one and done" player; changes schools every year instead of going to the NBA.
