COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp met with reporters on Friday, to discuss his assistants’ contracts and the newest additions to his staff.

His comments are below:
  • Opening: Muschamp has announced Kyle Krantz as a special teamsassistant coach. He’ll also coach strongside linebackers and nickel backs.
  • “He thinks like we think, is the best thing I would say. … I really felt like we needed more help on special teams. Obviously, he understands our scheme and system.”
  • Marcus Lattimore’s hire is a “home run for us,” Muschamp said.
  • “This is a win for our athletic department. This is a win for our university. This is a win for Columbia. This is a win for the state of South Carolina.”
  • “I tell our staff all the time, if it wasn’t for our players, we wouldn’t have a job. It’s our job to service our players.”
  • Muschamp thanks the university’s president and Board for their commitment to the program.
  • Muschamp on Lattimore’s position: “It’s about educating a young man for the rest of his life. … This part of it is exactly what beyond football says. It’s beyond Saturday afternoons.”
  • Lattimore, one day, could be added as an on-field coach at South Carolina.
